Youth, Monuments and Water – The World Heritage Day celebrated in Florence

Every year, UNESCO and ICOMOS celebrate the 18th of April as the World Heritage Day, and they dedicate this day to a different topic every year. In 2011, it has been addressed to the Heritage of Water.
In Italy, ICOMOS Italia has promoted a series of events and initiatives in Florence, Venice and Assisi – all happening on April 18th, and all addressed to celebrate Water and the relations between monuments and the water heritage.

ELAICH – Educational Linkage Approach In Cultural Heritage

ELAICH is a EU-funded Project in the framework of Euromed Heritage 4 Programme, and it is aimed at awareness raising among the general public, and especially youth in cultural heritage, its values and its preservation and conservation. The project was started on February 1, 2009, and is to be concluded in 2012. The ELAICH multi-disciplinary international team is leaded by the Technion – Israel Institute of  Technology, and includes conservation experts from four Universities: University of Antwerp, NTUA – National Technical University of Athens, University of Malta and University Ca’ Foscari of Venice.
During the two years since the start of the project period, the ELAICH international team has developed an innovative educational approach, based on both research and teaching experience of its partners, and applied through lessons in class, laboratory exercises, in-situ “intellectual” and e-learning support.
The ELAICH course through its short and long versions, provides an introduction into the contemporary interdisciplinary field of the conservation of monuments, while it’s important focal point is developing a basic ability of on-site understanding of a historic building/ site, with a view of a possible future contribution of the ELAICH students to preservation of cultural (built) heritage, and especially on its post-conservation intervention stage – the stage of maintenance and monitoring.
Basic abilities  of understanding and perception of historic buildings, might be used by the ELAICH students in their everyday life in their immediate built and natural environment and their own cultural heritage, e.g. their schools,  homes and other buildings. Furthermore, they could apply it also during their vacations e.g. towards the cultural heritage of countries and regions other than their own.  At this point, the former/current ELAICH students could become a “contributing tourists” – contributing to the preservation of the other countries’ cultural heritage, e.g. through reporting deterioration phenomena observed by them at a historic site, etc.
During the project period, ELAICH partners actually teach in the ELAICH courses in Greece, Israel, Malta, Italy, Turkey and other Mediterranean countries. By the end of the project period, the ELAICH toolkit will be provided through the e-platform, and translations will be provided in several local Mediterranean languages, in addition to the English version. This will make it accessible to users in different countries, and facilitate awareness raising in cultural heritage and its preservation among the general public.

Within the project ‘La Città degli Uffizi‘, remarkable art exhibitions continue within the Florence area, in Italy. The aim of the project is to disclose masterpieces that are usually hidden in the Galleria degli Uffizi‘s deposits, and to connect them to the public and to local territories sourrounding the city of  Florence. Consequently, it is to leverage the tourism and ecomonic asset of  those towns that are often left out from the major mass tourism tours.

From the 21st of November 2010 to the 1st of  May 2011, ‘La Città degli Uffizi‘ welcomes you in Scandicci  at  Castello dell’Acciaiolo with the exhibition GHIRLANDAIO – Una famiglia di pittori del Rinascimento. Live again the success of Costume Colloquium II Dress for Dance

Success is judged by quality and is not simply calculated in terms numbers. This is the standard of excellence by which the Costume Colloquium II: Dress for Dance will be judged, noted and remembered.
Costume Colloquium II: Dress of Dance did not disappoint and lived up to the high expectations of all its organizers and participants in the same way as the first Costume Colloquium dedicated to Janet Arnold.
Participants from 22 countries spanning the world met in Florence to share their knowledge and experiences in an open and congenial format.  Through lively discussion, informative visits and extraordinary events, a truly international, interdisciplinary and cross-cultural Colloquium was achieved.  Professionals, amateurs, students and educators alike, with interests ranging from costume and dance history, costume design, costume creation, museum studies, archival research, textile and costume conservation, to dance and dance re-enactment, benefited not only from the wealth of information gathered but also from networking with colleagues and friends, an essential component in the advancement of mutual understanding and collaboration.
Costume Colloquium’s great success is the direct result of the synergy between all those involved in its planning and execution: the promoters and organizing secretariat, the supporting institutions, hosting museums and foundations, the honorary and advisory committee members. Of course, the contributions of each speaker and the  presence of every participant are invaluable.
As a direct result, Costume Colloquium has now become an established bi-annual event.

Professionisti, appassionati, studenti e insegnanti, con interessi che includono la storia del costume e della danza, la creazione del costume, le ricerche d’archivio, la conservazione del costume, la danza e il ballo stessi, hanno beneficiato non solo dell’opportunità di scambiare fra di loro una grande quantità di informazioni, ma anche della possibilità di creare un network internazionale di colleghi e amici, componente essenziale per una mutua comprensione e una concreta collaborazione.
Il grande successo ottenuto dal Costume Colloquium è il diretto risultato della sinergia tra tutti coloro che sono coinvolti nella sua progettazione ed esecuzione: i promotori e la segreteria organizzativa, le istituzioni che hanno collaborato, i musei e le fondazioni che ci hanno ospitato, tutti i membri del Comitato Onorario e del Comitato Scientifico. Certamente sono considerati come un valore aggiunto ed inestimabile tutti contributi dei relatori e la presenza di ciascun partecipante.
Come diretta conseguenza, Costume Colloquium è ormai un appuntamento consolidato, con scadenza biennale.

‘La Città degli Uffizi’ continua … a Castelfiorentino!

The Comune di Castelfiorentino, the Assessorato alla Cultura, and the BE–GO Museo Benozzo Gozzoli are organizing a new exhibition in the context of  “La Città degli Uffizi”:

from April 30th to July 31st 2011 the exhibition Benozzo Gozzoli e Cosimo Rosselli nelle terre di Castelfiorentino. Pittura devozionale in Valdelsa will be held in Castelfiorentino at the museum BE – GO Museo Benozzo Gozzoli .

The purpose is both to spread the popularity andthe visibility of the Benozzo Gozzoli Museum to a wide range of national and international visitors and to contribute to the valorization and understanding of the local artistic, architectural, and natural territory.

Therefore, local territory and heritage become  main players in welcoming unique masterpieces, and in connecting them to the famous and majestic tabernacles by Benozzo Gozzoli. The to be exhibited artworks come from important museums such as  the Galleria degli  Uffizi, the  Musei Vaticani, the Museo di San Marco a Firenze. Thus, the exhibition  meets the purposes  of the project “La Città degli Uffizi”, which has been conceived by tAntonio Natali Director of the Galleria degli Uffizi,  and which aims to promote minor museums by borrowing them important artpieces that have been hidden to the public for a long time because they were kept in the deposits of the Galleria degli Uffizi.

Il Comune di Castelfiorentino, l’Assessorato alla Cultura e il BE–GO Museo Benozzo Gozzoli stanno organizzando una nuova mostra nell’ambito del progetto “La Città degli Uffizi”:

Dal 30 Aprile – 31 luglio 2011 si terrà infatti la mostra Benozzo Gozzoli e Cosimo Rosselli nelle terre di Castelfiorentino. Pittura devozionale in Valdelsa presso il BE – GO Museo Benozzo Gozzoli di Castelfiorentino.

L’intento è quello di creare le condizioni affinché il Museo Benozzo Gozzoli  possa da un lato giungere all’attenzione di un vasto pubblico, a livello nazionale e internazionale; dall’altro,  contribuire alla valorizzazione e conoscenza del patrimonio artistico, architettonico e naturale del territorio circostante.

Il territorio e il patrimonio culturale e naturale  diventano così protagonisti e si preparano ad accogliere importanti opere d’arte collegate storicamente e artisticamente ai maestosi tabernacoli affrescati da Benozzo Gozzoli. Le opere che verranno esposte provengono dalla  Galleria degli  Uffizi, dai Musei Vaticani, dal Museo di San Marco a Firenze e da altri importanti poli museali – in linea con il progetto “La Città degli Uffizi” che, ideato dal Direttore della Galleria degli Uffizi Antonio Natali, mira a promuovere  le realtà museali ‘minori’ attraverso il prestito di opere d’arte normalmente conservate nei depositi della Galleria degli Uffizi.

‘La Città degli Uffizi’: new edition to be opened soon in Figline Valdarno

A new edition of  ‘La Città degli Uffizi’ is going to open soon in Figline Valdarno!

‘La Città degli Uffizi’ is a project including a series of art exhibitions scheduled to be in different towns within the Province of Florence, and showing to the public important art works usually stored in the Uffizi Gallery’s deposits. In this respect, the project aims to connect the florentine territory and the public to these important art pieces.

After the 2009 editions in Figline Valdarno and Bagno a Ripoli, and after the first 2010 edition in Pontassieve the project La Città degli Uffizi has headed again to Figline Valdarno with the opening of the exhibition Arte a Figline – Dal Maestro della Maddalena a Masaccio – to be held from October 16th, 2010 to January 16th, 2011.
